Defund & DEMOLISH the city jail! Defend Black lives!

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10TH, 12pm Meet at City Hall, 55 Trinity Ave.

As you know, the Atlanta City Council has allocated $18 million for the Atlanta City Detention Center - a building that is nearly empty & slated for closure - in the midst of a public health crisis and a national call to defund jails and police.

This week we flooded City Council with public comment about moving funds from cuffs to care and received over 2,000 signatures on our petitions, pushing the Mayor's Office to indicate that funds will be moved out of Atlanta Department of Corrections. But it's time the city demolish the building for good and follow through on the promise to repurpose it into a Center for Wellness & Freedom. We demand a $0 budget for the Atlanta Department of Corrections and that funds are reallocated back into the Black community most harmed by the jail's operation by July 1st.

JOIN US on Wednesday, June 10th at City Hall at 12pm as we march to the Atlanta City Detention Center to tell Atlanta to DEFUND & DEMOLISH the jail and DEFEND BLACK LIVES.

The time to act is now. The city’s commitment to close and repurpose the jail is not enough and can't be reconciled with allocating millions of dollars to its operation in the coming year. Now more than ever, we must put an end to the criminalization and locking away of Black people and poor people of color. Please bring your own masks & protective gear.
